Wedding, Take 2

I received an unexpected phone call from my sister earlier asking about our  Church Blessing and Rites a couple of years back.  You see, hubby and I were married twice, by a judge in 2004 and then in a Church in 2008.  Though we didn’t have the usual ceremony anymore (aisle march, veil, candles, etc.), we did have mass with it and the Rites proper, together with the blessing from the Priest.

It was a mutual decision not to go “en grande” with our wedding because we thought that it was practical not to spend so much on a wedding when it would be over in a couple of hours.  We just decided to invest the money we’ve saved up and buy our first and second asset together, our matching wedding ring and a then residential lot in a private subdivision here in the south of Manila.

Aside from our wedding rings which cost us a hefty sum (but which we believe is very worth it since it symbolizes our unity), everything else about the “civil” wedding was pretty cheap. The same thing went for our Church blessing. We just paid a small fee at the Church and again had a meal with our family and the same sponsors in a restaurant.

Since my sister is now considering sealing her marriage with a Church blessing, I’m wishing her all the best. Unlike us, they didn’t have their official wedding rings so I’m thinking, since everything else is pretty cheap, I guess it’s the only real expense they have to prepare for.
